About Community Fight Against GBV and HIV/AIDS (C-FAGHS)

We are located in Kisumu city, and our work reaches deep into communities, teaching, protecting, and rebuilding lives. We partner with local communities to prevent and respond to sexual violence in Kisumu and its surrounding areas.

As a grassroots organization, Community Fight Against GBV and HIV/AIDS (C-FAGHS) stands beside those who have been silenced by fear, weighed down by violence, or overlooked by the world.

We believe every girl deserves safety, every young mother deserves opportunity, and every survivor deserves to be heard, healed, and uplifted.

When a survivor reaches out, we act swiftly: rescuing them from danger and supporting them to access free post-rape care services—including medical treatment for defilement, legal support, and psychosocial care.

We also offer:

  • Safe shelters for girls and young women in crisis
  • Education scholarships to keep them in school
  • Trauma counselling to help them heal
  • Triple Threat Education and Household Economic Strengthening support to help families rebuild

We walk hand in hand with the vulnerable, helping them rise from pain to purpose. We are more than an organization. We are a family. And in our family, hope is not just offered—it is lived, shared, and multiplied.

Friendship Bench

Listening hearts. Stronger girls. Safer futures.

Sometimes what saves a life is simply being heard. Our Friendship Bench provides a warm, stigma-free space where vulnerable girls can sit with a trained community counsellor, talk through their struggles, and learn healthy ways to cope with life’s challenges.

Through regular one-on-one sessions, girls gain:

  • Emotional support and trauma-informed guidance
  • Practical coping and stress management skills
  • Accurate information on sexual and reproductive health
  • Confidence to make safe choices about relationships and their bodies

The Friendship Bench helps girls strengthen their mental and emotional well-being — empowering them to stay in school, avoid unplanned pregnancies, prevent HIV infection, and break free from the cycle of sexual violence.

When a girl finds her voice, she can rewrite her future. The Friendship Bench is where that voice begins to rise.

Gender Justice

We believe in a world where no one lives in fear, where every person can walk in safety, dignity, and hope.

To build this world, we partner with local leaders to create safe, inclusive spaces and to support survivors of sexual violence as they reclaim their lives. We break cycles of harm with compassion, courage, and the steady hand of justice.

Our mission goes beyond care; it’s about lasting change. We work to strengthen the legal and policy framework on sexual and gender-based violence, ensuring it protects and empowers survivors and their families both at the national level and within Kisumu County.

Collaboration fuels this mission. We work side by side with criminal justice actors, including the judiciary, police, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Department of Health, the Department of Children Services, and local administrators. Together, we are building a justice system that does more than punish—it protects, it heals, and it restores hope.

Household Economic Strengthening

Stronger Parents. Safer Children. Thriving Families.

Behind every thriving child is a supportive, empowered caregiver. At C-FAGHS, we walk alongside caregivers, especially those raising vulnerable adolescent girls, to help them build stable, nurturing homes where children can feel safe, loved, and protected.

We equip caregivers with practical business skills and effective parenting techniques, giving them the tools to provide not just for today, but for the future. Through our training, they learn how to grow small businesses, practice positive and supportive parenting, communicate openly with their children, and provide consistent care, guidance, and protection.

This approach has sparked a remarkable rise in household incomes and transformed family dynamics. Caregivers are now better able to meet their children’s needs, protect them from sexual violence, HIV infection, and teenage pregnancy, and nurture relationships grounded in love and understanding.

To strengthen economic stability further, we run two special initiatives. Through the Boresha Mapato program, caregivers receive interest-free loans to help grow their small businesses. And through the KukuPesa program, they receive improved kienyeji chickens, enabling them to earn income from the sale of eggs and poultry. These ventures have helped many caregivers pay school fees and properly provide for their children, lighting the path to a brighter future.

When caregivers thrive, children flourish — and entire communities begin to change.

Skills and empowerment training

Triple Threat Education

Empowering students to protect their futures

Adolescence can be a winding path, full of promise but also risks. Through our School Sensitization Programs, we walk alongside students to help them navigate the “Triple Threat” they face—new HIV infections, teenage pregnancies, and sexual violence.

We create interactive, age-appropriate sessions that spark honest conversations and equip students with the knowledge and confidence to make safe, informed choices. In these sessions, they learn how HIV is transmitted, how it can be prevented, and why knowing their status through regular testing is essential.

We also talk about reproductive health, the importance of staying in school, and life skills that build resilience and self-worth. Our sessions shine a light on sexual and gender-based violence—how to recognize it, how to stand up against it, and where to find help.

We provide safe, confidential ways to report abuse, including our toll-free helpline 0800724316 and anonymous reporting boxes placed in partner schools.

By giving young people the tools to protect their bodies, their dreams, and their dignity, we are shaping a generation that chooses health, hope, and a future free from harm.

Doris Centre for Girls' Skills and Development

A haven where healing meets opportunity

The Doris Centre is more than a training hub; it is a sanctuary for girls and young women escaping the pain of sexual and gender-based violence. Here, survivors find not only safety and compassion but also a clear path forward.

Within our walls, they receive:

  • Caring counselling and trauma therapy
  • Life skills training and educational support

Our safe house provides:

  • Secure, nurturing shelter
  • Survivor-centred post-rape care, including medical, psychosocial, and legal support

Trauma Care and Support Centre

For Adolescent Girls and Young Women who have survived sexual violence — Because healing begins with being heard

At our Trauma Care and Support Centre, we walk gently beside adolescent girls and young women who have endured the deep wounds of sexual violence. Here, healing begins not with lectures or labels — but with listening. With compassion. With creating a safe space where pain can be spoken and hope can slowly take root again.

We provide trauma-informed care that tends to the whole person — heart, mind, and spirit. Survivors receive:

  • Confidential individual and group counselling to process trauma and build trust
  • Case management and referrals to connect them with the right support systems
  • Mental health education and resilience-building sessions to strengthen their inner coping tools
  • Guidance and support for reintegration back into their families, schools, and communities

At the heart of it all is one simple promise:
You are not alone. You are not broken. You can heal.
And together, we will help you rise.

Doris Odra Nawiri (DON) Scholarship

Protecting dreams. Restoring hope.

Through the Doris Odra Nawiri Scholarship, Community Fight Against GBV and HIV/AIDS (CFAGHS) helps vulnerable girls who have experienced or are at risk of sexual violence stay in school and build brighter futures.

About the Scholarship

The Doris Odra Nawiri Scholarship offers a lifeline to vulnerable adolescent girls and young women who have experienced sexual violence or face the risk of it. This scholarship helps them remain in school by covering school fees and/or providing essential school supplies such as uniforms, books, and other learning materials. Depending on each girl’s situation, support may be full or partial, guided by the results of our vulnerability assessment.

We identify potential beneficiaries through our community outreach efforts, including:

  • Friendship Bench
  • Our toll-free help line
  • Talking boxes placed in schools
  • And other community-based initiatives

Through this program, we aim to give every girl the chance to learn, to dream, and to rise above the shadows of violence—because education is not just a path forward, it is a shield of hope.

Growing Hope: Our Community Farm

Nourishing bodies, building resilience.

At Community Fight Against GBV and HIV/AIDS (C-FAGHS), we believe that healing communities also means nourishing them. On our community farm, we cultivate maize, beans, and vegetables—not just to feed those in need, but to plant the seeds of self-reliance.

The farm also serves as a living classroom, where we train local families in modern, sustainable farming methods to help them fight hunger and break the cycle of poverty.

Food from the farm sustains our safe house, ensuring that survivors have nourishing meals as they heal. Any surplus harvest is sold to support their recovery and rebuilding journeys.

By growing food, we grow skills, confidence, and brighter futures for our communities.
